Pilates for Pregnancy

The aim of the course is for Pilates Instructors to teach a safe and effective session for prenatal clients, yet offer a slightly more holistic approach, where the mental as well as physical needs of the mother are considered.. The course involves some of the traditional Pilates exercises, safely adapted for pregnancy, with the aim of strengthening and conditioning the body, in preparation for labor, birth and beyond. The exercises are all taught from standing (arm series), All fours, seated or side lying position, and are therefore suitable for all stages of pregnancy. (the course is suitable to be taught to women who are 12 weeks pregnant and upwards,, or from the date of the first scan, which is usually 10-12 weeks)

As well as Pilates exercises, the course contains yoga inspired stretches and movements which assist in ‘opening up the body’ creating more space for the baby to grow, as well as stretching tired and sore muscles. There is a also focus on breathing and relaxation, whereby breathing techniques are used to aid relaxation, a good nights sleep and to calm mother and baby, as well as helping to create a prenatal bond.

The course covers the following pregnancy fundamentals :
Mobilisation
Stretching
Pilates & core exercises
Breathing
Relaxation
